The Day After
Yesterday was the first annual Old Chicago bar crawl and I am happy to say I am still here to write about it. I've been cutting down on the drinking lately, and my tolerance was in no shape to handle the five bars we visited. We started out at the Riv, which was my first visit to Burgerama. I found it quite enjoyable and the $1 burgers and $2 pitchers are nice and easy on the wallet. Then it was on to Beggar's Banquet, The Post, and BW's. I lost my windbreaker jacket at PT's and ran home in a t-shirt in the snow from Rick's, but don't really remember enough to record it here. Possibly made-out with Meredith and will most likely hear about it at work today. My online class has started, but I can't say that I've done anything substantive in terms of homework. I guess I'm waiting for the book to arrive.

Current Status
So this is the background info/introductory post to get everyone (me?) up to speed....graduated from UMich with a B.A. in political science in May. Sent out a few hundred resumes. Did a few interviews. Couldn't find a real job, and am now working for good money and lots 'o fun as a waiter. Pondering if the rat race is really worth it. The law school apps are all in, and its looking like the University of Georgia. Great sports teams (football) with crazy SEC fans, good lucking girls with sexy accents, and a reasonably priced school with a solid reputation. My only question is....will the Dawgs overtake the Maize and Blue as my squad? The early money says no, but its too soon to tell. Back on topic....life right now basically is about as relaxed as it can get. No rent to pay, food cooked and on the table for every meal, going out too much and working out a couple of times a week. Yea, its pretty chill, I can't complain. Hopefully I'll have enough excitement to document here, but it shouldn't be a problem.

What's wrong with decency?

Can someone tell me why it is that people don't seem to have any respect for decency in the world today. Specifically I am talking about the corrosion of standards in verbal communication. I should start by pointing out that I am not the kind of person who normally cringes when someone uses profanity in conversation, or one of those people who avoids seeing R rated movies to keep my ears free from curse words. Contrarily, I enjoy watching movies where harsh language is used, and also adopt the vocabulary that my circle of friends uses. The movies I am referring to relate to subject matter that has no expectation of any standard of decency, which is the distinction I am trying to make. Criminals, gangsters, rebellious teenagers, or rowdy college kids are not looking to be decent, nor should they be, in my honest opinion. Ordinary people, on the other hand, who respect each other, and respect themselves just don't need to throw around profanity like it grows on trees. I would imagine some people would disagree with me, and say that people should be able to say whatever they want, whenever they want. I find this silly though, since the words that you choose to say have an automatic and immediate impact on whoever hears you. Anyway, this is wrapped up with this conclusion: A man who uses profanity carelessly will not get my respect or attention.

Okay, I'm going to try and keep an online journal, since I can't seem to actually keep one in the really real world. Something slightly intimidating about having a completely blank book that yearns to be filled instead of just typing away into some screen that can't ever be filled. There's no expectations of completion. No hoping to fill an entire book with some sort of mystical speak that bleeds into the psyche of whatever poor soul discovers it after I'm gone. Instead of hoisting bits of my life on someone who's never going to meet me, just hoist it on random strangers who wander through the web in their spare time. Sounds equitable to me. Anyway, I guess I should give a little background at this point.

Lessee, my name's Meagn (not at typo), I'm 24 years old, and almost completely computer illiterate, so this is going to help me learn more about how to use a computer for something other than just emails and blather. I seem to be failing miserably at the latter don't I. I live in downtown Cincinnati- right smack in the middle of where the supposed rioting occured. I'm dating a soon to be rockstar, which is probably one of the more difficult things that I've ever attempted.

Here's his website- they're actually incredibly good. I didn't know he played music when we started dating so it's not like I'm a seriously creepy stalker chick. I swear. I never realized how hard it was to date a musician, but now I have the utmost respect for any musical pairing that has lasted the long haul. It takes an incredible amount of patience and a willingness to take second place that I'm not sure I can handle, but I'm sure everyone in the webverse will get tired of hearing about it before long.

I'm a writer. Published and everything, just stuck with a killer case of writer's block, but I figure I'll post some of my stuff on here just to get it out of my head and onto something. Hopefully, before I explode. Anyway, I'll be back. Infamous last words.

Why can't we all just have asexual friendships?
Guy-girl relationships are funny. Friends, siblings, parent-child, or romantic. They all have definite qualities. However, Familial guy girl relationships are definitely different from extra-familial, but still they've got some of the same characteristics. Ok, lets talk extra-familial for now. Why must there always be a sexual tension? There are the occasional relationships where its not as apparent, but still there. Take my friend Matt and I. We're great friends, and absolutely nothing more. He's rather metrosexual and has a girlfriend Jane. He's a great friend to chat with, shop with, decorate with and pretend to be fashionistas with and no chance of him and I hooking up. But still, there's always this underlying remote fear that we're not on the same page as far as the non-potential of "us", even though chances are we always are. There's always going to be this process of finding and maintaining a happy equilibrium of great friends but nothing more. Then of course there are those friendships that do have the potential to blossom into something more. These are the really frustrating ones. And more often than not, they're more one-sided than we'd like. These are the friendships that require a lot of effort, but not in the typical way. They require effort to remain friends, and not let your view of that person change into something romantic. This is (at least I suspect) probably more difficult for the ladies to do than the guys, well especially if you somewhat abide by the guy pursues girl mentality. So how do we remedy ourselves of this predicament? Do we just cut off friendships with the opposite sex that could potentially turn into something else? No, because then you just miss out on so much more. Do you pretend like the potential isn't there? Does an equilibrium exist? at least one that can be reasonably attained. Or are some people just destined not to be friends b/c there's too much attraction for a friendship, but not enough of the right ingredients for this elusive "relationship"? But then again, why bother thinking about it anyway? I suppose it'll just end up frustrating the ponderer. Ok, good by me.

QUASH
Today's word of the day

quash \KWOSH\, transitive verb:
1. (Law) To abate, annul, overthrow, or make void; as, "to quash an indictment."
2. To crush; to subdue; to suppress or extinguish summarily and completely; as, "to quash a rebellion."

In a sentence:
My math professor has officially quashed my chances of keeping my scholarship and going to Scotland.

So tell me, how is it that one can not only regularly attend class, but participate in the discussions, do the homework faithfully, understand the material, do well on the quizzes and is somehow completely incapable of doing any of the review exercises for the midterm? Well I'm not sure, but it has certainly quashed any desire of mine to continue to try.

Libby and the Lobster
So why "Lobster Tails"? Well I can completely contribute this one to Isaac, my dear friend since who knows when. When we were in high school (I was in my jr. year and he in his Sr. year) I was dating a guy with the last name Sandwich. Yes, Sandwich believe it or not. Anyhow, Isaac in his extensive creativity related that Libster (my nickname at the time) sounds like Lobster. And, if I had married this Sandwich guy, they could call me "Lobster Sandwich". Well I was fortunate enough to have Isaac share his epiphany with me in front of an audience of several other of our friends. Let me tell you, I have never seen a people become so collectively animated over a single nickname. They seemed to think that this was the best name ever! Thus, from that point I was referred to as "The Lobster" (quite thankfully the "Sandwich" dropped off). The name did not just stick with my immediate friends who were there on that fateful "Smallville Night" (for which an explanation is sure to come later), yet it traveled to work so that my coworkers then referred to me as Lobster, as well as my friends up in an entirely different city. So that is where I find the inspiration for my "lobster tails". These postings will most certainly lack continuity other than they are all either random happenings, thoughts or perhaps the occasional epiphanic happening.

Here's where I yell at things.

Wednesday, November 12, 2003This is my first time doing this shit.......so here goes....well like the title says, I am a disgruntled employee. What sets off this anger in me? Well I'm gonna be blunt about this....white people, mostly middle aged housewife white women, you know the kind. The women that have to point out how something another woman is gonna buy is "cute"....."oh that's so cute"....Then the other insipid gringa has to respond with the classical.."isn't it? I thought so, I got it on sale"....arrgghh, what the hell is the need for these women to talk to each other? It's not like they're gonna see each other again. Stupid gringas! The same goes for old white men, thse fucks act like they're women. Cheap ass fucks want to know..."I thought this was on sale? Well if it isn't, then I'm not buying it"................Why the fuck do these prunes feel like they have to act snotty with me? I don't fucken' create the prices. Sometimes I feel like slapping these old guys...."hey pops! what the hell happened? back in the day you where a stud hittin' on girls? You prolly' bought a cherry red Bel Air to impress some pussy? What happened man? Now you're a bitchy old senile man." I really hope I'm always coo'.....hopefully....Oh yeah and it's my birthday today!
Im 20 today.........I hate being 20, sure it's one more year away from buying da' booze, but I'm not a teen anymore, I'm just a 20 year old angry kid. he he go figure.
