What's wrong with decency?

Can someone tell me why it is that people don't seem to have any respect for decency in the world today. Specifically I am talking about the corrosion of standards in verbal communication. I should start by pointing out that I am not the kind of person who normally cringes when someone uses profanity in conversation, or one of those people who avoids seeing R rated movies to keep my ears free from curse words. Contrarily, I enjoy watching movies where harsh language is used, and also adopt the vocabulary that my circle of friends uses. The movies I am referring to relate to subject matter that has no expectation of any standard of decency, which is the distinction I am trying to make. Criminals, gangsters, rebellious teenagers, or rowdy college kids are not looking to be decent, nor should they be, in my honest opinion. Ordinary people, on the other hand, who respect each other, and respect themselves just don't need to throw around profanity like it grows on trees. I would imagine some people would disagree with me, and say that people should be able to say whatever they want, whenever they want. I find this silly though, since the words that you choose to say have an automatic and immediate impact on whoever hears you. Anyway, this is wrapped up with this conclusion: A man who uses profanity carelessly will not get my respect or attention.
